An Evening with… Stephan Roman
Suspicion and mistrust Anglo-Russian relations during the time of the Romanov Tsars
Stephans talk features particular focus on the Isle of Wight as it stood at the heart of the Anglo-Russian relationship between 1698-1918. While the Tsars had connections with Cowes, their revolutionary opponents made Ventnor a centre of radical political thinking in the middle years of the nineteenth century
Stephan Roman is the author of Isle and Empires: Romanov Russia, Britain and the Isle of Wight (Medina Publishing, 2022). He studied Modern History at the University of Oxford and then worked for the British Council in international cultural and educational relations for over thirty years.
